JICA Helps Haiphong City Improve Environment
Ground breaking ceremony for package A1 (Construction of Sewer Line) and A4 (Construction of Regulation Lakes) of the project were made December 6 in Haiphong city.
Haiphong City Environment Improvement Project is to prevent flood, improve water quality and increase appropriate solid waste treatment, by rehabilitating and developing the existing drainage system, sewerage system and solid waste collection and treatment system, thereby improving urban environment in Haiphong City.
The project is comprised of sewerage and drainage component and solid waste component. Activities carried under the project include civil works, construction of waste water treatment plant, sewer line system, pumping stations, landfill sites, equipments, and resettlement site development…Capacity building and public awareness are also activities under the project.
Haiphong city Environment Improvement Project is carried out with ODA worth JPY 22,823 million for two Loan Agreements (about US$290 million) provided by the Japanese Government and scheduled to be completed by 2015.
JICA is one of the major development partners of Vietnam in the environment sector especially in the sewerage sector. JICA has made financial assistances in developing and upgrading the sewerage systems in major cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue City, Thu Dau Mot Town (Binh Duong Province), and Vinh Yen Town (Vinh Phuc Province).
