Measures to Accelerate International Integration Adopted

PM Nguyen Tan Dung, on January 10, requested ministries, government agencies and provincial and municipal People’s Committees to take some measures to actively accelerate international integration.
 
Specifically, the Government chief assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to concretize missions relating to external relations and international integration in the Government’s Action Plan in the 2011-2015 tenure.
 
The ministry is responsible for building up plans on Vietnam’s proper participation in security and political activities in multilateral frameworks, on implementing Vietnam’s international commitments, on training and introducing Vietnamese people to partake in international organizations and important international dispute handling agencies.
 
The Ministry of Planning and Investment was asked to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to make a report on the WTO’s entry impacts on the local economy and society and recommendations for deeper and broader international integration. The report should be submitted to the PM before February 15.
 
The Ministry of Planning and Investment should also complete the Green Development Strategy with concrete roadmaps and measures to ensure rapid and sustainable development. The strategy is due for submission to the PM in the third quarter.
 
PM Dũng entrusted the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop an international economic integration strategy till 2020, review and appraise the implementation of the commitments regarding the WTO entry and free trade agreements (FTAs), especially FTAs of the ASEAN with partners.
 
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Education and Training will take specific measures to ensure more rapid and effective international integration.
 
The Ministry of Education and Training was asked to speed up the project on foreign language teaching in the period of 2008-2020.
 
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for enhancing local and foreign investment in agriculture, forestry, aquaculture; beef up transfer of science and technology, negotiations on agreements on mutual recognition of food hygiene and safety, fauna and flora quarantine with other countries.
