Africa, Vietnam Share Experiences in Urban Development
A seminar on common experience in urban development between Vietnam and Africa was held in Hanoi on February 15.
The event, jointly held by the Vietnam Ministry of Construction and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was attended by many international delegates, including those from Spain, Mali, Ghana and Senegal.
It was reported that over the years, Vietnam has developed more than 700 urban areas, including nearly 100 cities and towns. Many housing programs for workers and low-income earners have been put in place, thus improving the people’s living conditions.
Urban development has given fresh impetus to boosting the country’s industrialization and modernization process.
However, the process has led to a sharp increase in population and put mounting pressure on local administrations to develop infrastructure and deal with environment pollution.
The participants shared the view that African countries are addressing similar problems, and that seminar will help managers and zoning planners from both sides in ensuring sustainable urban development, contributing to socio-economic development.
