Danang Hosts 45th APEC TEL Meeting
The 45th Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) meeting is taking place in Danang City to prepare documents for the 9th APEC TEL Ministers’ Meeting to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russian in August.
The event, from April 9-11, is attended by more than 200 delegates from 21 APEC members, who will focus on evaluating gaps and challenges related to technology, science and capacities between economies as well as identifying synchronous and suitable challenges and solutions for each member.
Addressing the opening session, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Thanh Hung highly valued crucial role of telecommunications and IT to socio-economic development and pointed out difficulties that the telecommunication and information technology sector has to overcome to create a safe and reliable computer network, a comprehensive legal framework and favorable conditions for economic integration.
The working group in charge of telecommunications and IT will classify, exchange and support relevant policies to meet APEC’s goals.
The APEC TEL’s new projects and initiatives are introduced by three steering groups namely the Liberation Steering Group (LSG), the Security and Prosperity Steering Group (SPSG) and the Development Steering Group (DSG).
Delegates will also discuss ways of promoting trade liberalization and regional investment, integration, regional economic-technology cooperative activities, strengthening welfare and creating the environment for favorable and sustainable business activities.
As part of the event, a number of conferences on telecommunications, information technology, internet security, emergency telecommunication, competitive policies for handicapped people will also be held.
