PM Okays New National Target Programme on Rural Clean Water

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has signed the Decision 366/QD-TTg to approve the National Target Programme on Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in the 2012-2015 period.
 
To realize the above goals, the Government would allocate state budget that covers up to 90 percent of expenditure for building centralized water supply projects in disadvantageous, ethnic minority, mountainous, coastal and border areas; 60 percent of budget for delta communes; and 75 percent for other countryside communes. Localities will mobilise other sources of capital to fund this programme.
 
The Government will provide 70 percent capital to small-scale water supply projects to serve poor households and 35 percent for “near poor” households.
 
Water supply projects of rural schools and medical stations will receive 90 percent of construction expenditure from the State budget.
 
Some 65 percent of the rural population are expected to have hygienic toilets, 45 percent of rural households to have hygienic breeding facilities, 100 percent of rural kindergartens, schools, medical stations to have hygienic latrines over the next three years.
 
The programme has a total investment of around VND 27,600 billion.
