Vietnam Welcomes 2.5 Million Foreign Tourists
Nearly 2.5 million foreign tourists have visited Vietnam so far this year, up 22.9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO) and the National Administration of Tourism.
The country received about 620,000 foreign arrivals in April alone, an increase of 10.3 percent over the previous month.
The highest number of tourists came from Russia, with a year-on-year increase of 50.9 percent, followed by the Republic of Korea (RoK) (49.3 percent); Taiwan (China) (30.2 percent); Malaysia (28.3 percent); Japan (25.3 percent) and China (23.3 percent).
Close to 1.5 million visitors arrived in the country for tourism, up 23 percent against the same period last year, and the remainder were travelling for business and other purposes.
The highest proportion of international visitors arrived in Vietnam by air, 85.5 percent while, the rest travelled by sea and overland.
The country has set a target of receiving about 6.5 million international visitors this year.
