High Quality Education for All
The World Bank (WB) recently released the Vietnam High Quality Education for All report in Hanoi to provide an in-depth analysis of Vietnam’s primary and secondary education performances.
The report, a joint product of the World Bank, the United Kingdom Department for International Development and the Belgium Development Cooperation Agency, offers an analysis of educational performance from 1992 to 2008 and drivers that may lead to changes, with the aim of updating policy reforms in the next decade in Vietnam.
The report shows Vietnam attains impressive results in improving education quality in a relatively short time. The rate of literacy and school attendance in Vietnam is quite high compared with other regional countries and the group of countries of the same income level.
However, the report also recognises that the country still faces challenges in narrowing the gaps of accessing learning opportunities among population groups, and in improving the quality of teaching and learning to develop the skills needed for the labour market.
To address those challenges, Vietnam should better prioritise public funding in the education sector, enhance spending efficiency and improve school management and pedagogy, said Ms Emanuela di Gropello, a World Bank Lead Economist in the East Asia - Pacific Region.
