US$9 Million to Reconstruct Bridges in Central Region

Japanese Government has agreed to extend a grant aid of JPY 749 million (around US$9 million) to help reconstruct rural bridges in central region, said Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Vietnam Office.

 

The exchange of notes for the 3 year - project “Reconstruction of bridges in the central district (Phase 3)” was signed in Hanoi on May 8 by Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr Yasuaki Tanizaki and Minister of Transport, Mr Dinh La Thang.

 

Accordingly, Japan will support reconstructing 4 bridges namely Tam Ngan bridge in Ninh Thuan province, Ngoi Ngan bridge in Khanh Hoa province, Ea Soup bridge and Krong K’mar bridge in Dak Lak province.

 

These bridges are deteriorated, create bottlenecks and even threats for local people during their transportation. Reconstruction of the bridges is an urgent necessity for convenient and safe transport.

 

“The central region is the most severely-devastated region during the wartime and a risk-prone region facing many natural calamities such as typhoons, landslides… every year. Newly reconstructed bridges will help local people to secure safer and smoother traffic, and develop regional socio-economic as well”, said JICA Chief Representative, Mr. Motonori Tsuno.

 

From 1995 to 1998, Japan has supported 3,760 million JPY to construct 29 bridges in 16 northern provinces; and 38 bridges in 17 provinces in Mekong river delta with a total budget of 3,734 million JPY between 2001 and 2003.
