PV Gas South- Trusted Brand for Partners and Consumers

As a member of PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas), PV Gas South always has a stable source of supply and holds an advantage over competitors. PV Gas South’s main products are liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG). LPG is a traditional product and CNG is a strategic product that serves the national programme entitled “Using energy sources economically and efficiently and protecting environment.” Tasked to supply CNG for buses and other means of transport in major cities and surrounding areas, PV Gas South has attempted to invest in CNG supply equipment and infrastructure. So far, the company is operating three general stations in Phu My, My Xuan A (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) and Hiep Phuoc (Ho Chi Minh City) and a CNG filling station system consisting of three stations in HCM City, two in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, and one mobile station used for emergency situations. CNG is a clean fuel (virtually free of smoke toxicants) used for public transport vehicles instead of diesel oil (DO) and gasoline-fuelled cars (CNG prices are 30 percent - 40 percent lower than gasoline prices). The environment-friendly fuel serves industrial users like steelmakers, producers of construction materials, bricks, ceramics, and other commodities.

 

PV Gas South is entrusted by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) to convert and supply CNG for buses and taxis in HCM City and its member units. With PV Gas South’s efforts, many passenger transportation companies switched from gasoline-fuelled vehicles to CNG-powered vehicles to protect the environment and reduce costs. Especially, many companies have shifted to CNG although they are not involved in transportation business. About 130 cars used by PetroVietnam in HCM City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province have been changed to use CNG.

 

Currently, PV Gas South is running a broad distribution system in southern Vietnam with three member companies and a number of branches. Revenues and output grow impressively. Its output expanded from 5,000 tonnes of LPG and revenues reached VND15 billion in the first year of operation, to 200,000 tonnes and VND4,000 billion now. To keep up with global integration trend, to enhance management efficiency and ensure safety in liquefied gas business, PV Gas South has successfully built standardisations certified by British Standards Institute (BSI), including ISO 9001:2000 quality management system, and OHSAS 18001:1999 safety standard management system. Particularly, the company successfully developed and applied the corporate operating system (COS) to build corporate culture and reduce administrative expenses. This is the essential prerequisite for its sustainable development in the process of international economic integration. To serve market development objectives, take initiative of supply source and serve customers’ needs, PV Gas South is now investing in liquefied gas depot system in the southern region.

 

In 2011, despite economic difficulties, PV Gas South achieved or exceeded targets of revenue and profit in LPG business. Its LPG output was 257,497 tonnes (equalling 106.2 percent of the full-year plan) and revenues reached VND5,807 billion, of which civil consumption was 115,408 tonnes (equalling 102.2 percent of the plan and accounting for 30 percent of market share in the south) and industrial consumption was 142,089 tonnes (109.64 percent of the plan). Its petroleum output was 6.42 million litres (91.7 percent of the plan) while CNG output was nearly 118 million cubic metres (110.8 percent of the plan). Its shares (symbol: PGS) have been listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) in the past more than four years and considered one of the 100 best stocks in Vietnam.

 

While enjoying remarkable revenue and profit growths, PV Gas South-invested projects have been carried out on schedule with guaranteed quality, safety, fire prevention and put into operation effectively. Last year, the firm put into use a TPG gas filling station in Binh Phuoc province and a TPG filling station and canister painting workshop in Binh Dinh province. To keep steady market share growth, PV Gas South is committed to ensuring brand reputation with customers, in both product quality and price. Besides, to protect consumers' interests, stabilise the market and reduce inflationary impacts, PV Gas South always pioneers reasonable market price stabilisation policies. Together with that, the company also pays particular attention to developing quality human resources, improving production conditions, and upgrading technologies, machinery and equipment to ensure safety in production and business activities.

 

Mr Ha Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of PV Gas South, said: Determining to hold 50 percent of gas market share in southern Vietnam by 2015, PV Gas South has actively purchased LPG filling stations nd companies failing to comply with operating conditions provided in the Government’s Decree 107/ND-CP. The biggest aim of this activity is to promote the strength of retailing system to sell directly to consumers in key areas, thus helping them enjoy best prices, products and services. Up to now, PV Gas South acquired 55 percent of stake in VT Gas Company, bought 100 percent of stake in Dang Phuoc Gas Company in Gia Lai province, 100 percent of stake in An Pha Tay Nguyen Company, and 100 percent of stake in An Pha Tay Ninh Company.
