This is the primary content of the 12th meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Water Resources Management organised in Ha Long City in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh from July 25 to 27, 2012.

The meeting, chaired by the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Quang Ninh Department of Natural Resources and Environment, evaluated the implementation of cooperative activities in terms of water resources management as well as discuss and propose orientations in the future. The meeting also focused on issues related to the realisation of the ASEAN Strategic Plan of Action on Water Resources Management such as water data management and report system design, risks and impacts caused by abnormal weather phenomena in ASEAN member countries and river classification system or activities of increasing the awareness, knowledge and participation of communities in water resource management.

In 2005, ASEAN passed the ASEAN Strategic Plan of Action on Water Resources Management to tackle issues relating to demand and supply allocation, water quality and sanitation, extreme events, and governance and capacity building. The strategic plan is a significant regional response to this challenge that complements and supports the actions at the national and local levels.

Besides, the meeting discussed crucial events in the region like the Singapore International Water Week, the Clean Environment Summit Singapore 2012 and the Second Asia-Pacific Water Summit.
