August CPI Rises in Two Major Hubs

The consumer price index (CPI) in the capital city of Hanoi in August increased by 0.57 percent from the previous month, reported the Hanoi Statistics Office.
 
The highest CPI rise belonged to the housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials group, up 2.89 percent from July due to price increases of gas, kerosene and electricity. CPI of the transport group followed with a 1.1 percent rise.
 
The restaurant and food service group saw only a 0.14 percent increase, of which the CPI of foodstuff witnessed a decrease of 0.97 percent from the previous month.
 
On August 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office announced that August CPI in the city surged by 0.66 percent from July. This is the highest CPI increase since February 2012.
 
Nine among the eleven commodity groups saw a CPI increase. The restaurant and food service group climbed by 0.14 percent, mainly due to a 1.04 percent rise in foodstuffs and a 0.07 percent reduction in food.
 
The highest price hike was seen in the culture, sport and entertaining group, at 3.56 percent. The post and telecommunication group retained its price level, while the health group experienced a slight drop of 0.02 percent.
