Ministry of Industry and Trade, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, JETRO Ho Chi Minh Office, the Investment & Trade Promotion Centre of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC) and Reed Tradex launched three Mega Exhibitions for supporting industry which are taking place on October 4-6 at Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center (SECC), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Mr. Hirotaka Yasuzumi, Managing Director of Japan External Trade Organization, Ho Chi Minh Office (JETRO) said that as the fastest developing economy in Southeast Asia, the Vietnam market with 89 million people provides an attractive investment destination for Japanese manufacturers. Consequently, JETRO Ho Chi Minh City sees great potential for development of trade, technology transfer and business relationships with Vietnamese manufacturers through “METALEX Vietnam” and the co-located “The 5th Exhibition on Supporting Industries in Ho Chi Minh City” which JETRO is a co-organizer along with the Investment & Trade Promotion Centre of Ho Chi Minh City.
“At METALEX Vietnam, participants will receive an opportunity to source the most cost effective technology and machinery that match their requirement in upgrading production for better efficiency to make their products competitive for international manufacturers. Mr. Le Duong Quang, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Industry and Trade, remarked at the Opening Ceremony of Metalex Vietnam 2012: “Assisting Vietnam to develop the supporting industries is one of the contents that the Japanese Government committed to help Vietnam in the framework of VJEPA and Vietnam Japan Joint Initiative Period 4 aiming to improve the business environment in Vietnam.”
“The exhibition on Supporting Industry held by JETRO in Vietnam truly becomes a bridge between the two countries Vietnam - Japan in a practical and effective way, which is bringing the mutual benefit for the 2 countries. Japanese companies may be supplied with excelent materials, equipment and parts in Vietnam, which reduces import costs and lowers production costs. Vietnamese enterprises have the opportunity to innovate technique, upgrade production and expand business scale. The Exhibition on Supporting Industries in Vietnam organized by JETRO has contributed to the development of Vietnam's supporting industry as well as the whole industry in Vietnam,” he noted.
Mr. Narucha Ruchupan, Director of the BOI Unit for Industrial Linkage Development ( BUILD) said that BOI – Unit for Industrial Linkage Development (BUILD) regards Vietnam highly as a trade and investment partner, and look forward to greater cooperation between Thai and Vietnam manufacturers, as we are now moving and preparing for the common market in 2015 following the integration of AEC, and we have already supported METALEX Vietnam for over 5 consecutive years. Vietnam is currently already a highly attractive investment destination for international manufacturers in automotive, electronics, and other supporting industries. To keep up the competitiveness as well as acquiring new clients, Vietnamese manufacturers need to expand their production line as well as continuing to improve their productivity both in terms of quality and quantity. Finding the right partners to conduct business with for reciprocal interest would also help Vietnam’s industries to become strong and profitable in a long run. This is why we would like to help Vietnam develop supporting industries together.
Mrs. Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director-General of The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) said that the technologies involved in the automotive and industrial parts keep evolving and changing, due to demands from the market place for new items with improved quality and functions. Thus, the Vietnamese manufacturers need to keep themselves updated on these developments at all times, while also look out for new technologies and skills that they need to adopt to remain competitive. “METALEX Vietnam” brings many international pavilions and suppliers from many countries including Thailand that would stimulate the production line upgrade as well as business dialogues between new and existing partners. For our part, the Department of International Trade Promotion of Thailand has brought with us 25 companies from Thailand to participate in this event. This is our second time supporting METALEX Vietnam and we hope to share the experience and expertise to help improve the advancement of Vietnam’s supporting industries.

Mr. Ronnie Wong, President of Association of Electronics Industries in Singapore (AEIS) said that currently, Vietnam electronics industry has grown steadily under the government’s supports and the local manufacturers’ efforts. Singaporean companies would like to be a part of driving Vietnam’s electronics industry in terms of investments in machinery and manpower training. Thus, we attend “NEPCON Vietnam 2012” to support and strength the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore electronics industries. NEPCON Vietnam is a great platform where Vietnamese and the regional electronics manufacturers to source new technologies to enhance the production. And it is the only networking event for the electronics community in Vietnam where industrialists can meet each other and discuss possible cooperation.
Mr. Le Ngoc Son , Chairman of Vietnam Electronic Industries Association (VEIA) said that according to the Vietnam General Statistics Office, in the first four months of 2012, the country earned 2.1 billion U.S. dollars from export of electronic goods and spares parts, an increase of 98.6% year-on-year. Vietnam’s export turnover of electronics products is seen growing strongly in the coming time given an influx of new foreign-invested electronics projects being set up and operational ones scaling up production. The arrival of large-scale foreign-invested electronics projects promises strong development momentum for the local industry. The electronics devices market is forecast to increase at an overall compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16% through to 2016. Relatively, high technological developments are the key driver of the industrial production sector. Hence, “NEPCON Vietnam 2012,” Vietnam’s Only Exhibition on SMT & Testing Technologies and Supporting Industries for Electronics Manufacturing, is an effective stage for electronics manufacturers to acquire innovative technologies to enhance their production. On behalf of Vietnam Electronic Industries Association, I truly believe the event will be a good chance for Vietnamese companies to network with world’s leading suppliers and potential business partners. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Reed Tradex Company, the organizer, as well as all participants a continuous success in the soon-coming future.
Mr Chainarong Limpkittisin, Managing Director of Reed Tradex said that METALEX Vietnam , Vietnam’s International Exhibition on Machine Tools & Metalworking Solutions for Production Upgrade and NEPCON Vietnam, Vietnam’s Only Exhibition on SMT & Testing Technologies and Supporting Industries for Electronics Manufacturing with strong supporters from Ministry of Science & Technology (MST) , Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), Vietnam Electro – Technical Industry Association (VELINA) and Vietnamese Society of Automotive Engineers (VSAE).

Supporting industries play extremely vital roles in Vietnam. Especially the parts manufacturing sector which is a fundamental factor that determines the growth of the industries--be it the motorbike, automotive, or electronics sector--and also the economy and society. A strong parts manufacturing sector can contribute many benefits to the country such as reduced costs of parts imports, higher local skills, enhanced productivity efficiency, superior product values, healthier economy, etc. It is evident to us, Reed Tradex, who has been working with Vietnam’s government bodies on many of our activities, that the Government highly values the importance of the supporting industries including the parts making sector and has been providing supports they need to become self-sufficient. Becoming self-sufficient means the quality of the parts that are locally produced lives up to the expectations of investors. But to achieve that status, new machinery and technologies are needed, new know-how is required, and new business networks need to be established and expanded. And so we organize “Vietnam Manufacturing Expo” with confidence that the event will be one piece of a jigsaw that will fill in to help complete a picture of vibrant and healthy parts making sector which are ready to push Vietnam’s manufacturing industries and economy forward.
“We, at Reed Tradex, are determined for the show we organize to play its parts in driving Vietnam’s industrial development forward, and we hope that this event will do its parts in helping to fortify the supporting industries. We are grateful for our co-organizers, supporters, exhibitors, visitors, local partners, members of the press, and everyone who has been involved with this project. Your participation and contribution make it exciting to watch Vietnam’s industry grow and fulfill expectations of investors and buyers all over the world. Next year, we will offer even more business opportunities in order to serve Vietnamese industrialists’ demands.
Our shows will absolutely be ones of the best events for Vietnam’s industrial developments. “’METALEX – NEPCON Vietnam 2013” will be organized during October 10-12, at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) said Mr. Chainarong.
