On 6 November in Hanoi, SME Technical Assistance Centre in Hanoi (Ministry of Planning and Investment) collaborated with Daejeon City Business Development Assistance Association of South Korea to organise the seminar “Daejeon Promotion Day”. This event is an occasion to further stimulate business cooperation and promotion between Vietnamese enterprises and those of Daejeon in particular and of South Korea in general.
Financed by the Authority of Daejeon City, the event attracted enterprises involved in such areas as IT, cosmetic production, food production, household appliance manufacturing, security camera manufacturing and others. Enterprises launched the introduction of highly applied products to Vietnam counterparts and thereby establish closer trade relationships, improve the potential and strengths of each other, as well as enhance the long-established ties between Vietnam and South Korea.
Speaking at the seminar, Mr Jang Yong Jea, Head of the South Korean Delegation, affirmed that, “Vietnam is currently the fifth nation, after Indonesia, Japan and China, with which we organise the promotion seminar. We are here to introduce to you, Vietnamese enterprises, our products of high technical content and creativity.”

The representative of Daejeon’s enterprises also said that the Association of Nursery Gardens of Daejeon was founded in January 2000 with a view to supporting and creating opportunities for organisations and individuals that have started their business and at the same time, building confidence in and expanding the relationships among newly-established enterprises via development of a human resources and technical assistance system. Since 2009, The Nursery Gardens Association started to receive sponsorship from Daejeon City and kicked off its global marketing promotion activity. He hoped that after this seminar, more and more opportunities for long-term and close cooperation would be created for enterprises of South Korea and Deajeon.

South Korea is now one of the large investors in Vietnam. In addition to Samsung, Daewoo, LG and SK, which have been present here for a long time, more South Korean SMEs have been accelerating their investments in this market and gained initial success.

According to the statistics, the foreign trade turnover between the two nations in 1992 (in which the diplomatic relationship was established) was just US$500 million. In 2011, the turnover rocketed to US$18.5 billion (37 times as much as that of 1992). South Korea and Vietnam are striving to reach the bilateral trade turnover of US$20 billion prior to 2015 and US$30 billion by 2020. There is a high possibility that these goals will be reached before the deadline. The year of 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relationship between the two countries. The seminar is one of many activities to celebrate this important remark, contributing to further enhancing the strategic cooperative tie of Vietnam and South Korea. Daejeon is a city famous for science and technology, being the cradle of science and technology and home to 1.5 million people.  Located in the centre of the Kimchi country, Daejeon plays the role of an important traffic node. The seminar opened the door for the two countries’ enterprises to establish the relationship, not only in the areas they operate but also in areas with potential for the future.

Mr Le Manh Hung, representative of the SME Technical Assistance Centre in Hanoi, asserted that the relationship between Vietnam and South Korea has developed in many areas, particularly economics and political field. The Center has been providing training, information and facilitated collaboration with lots of South Korean enterprises. The seminar will serve as a bridge, connecting enterprises of the two nations, helping them to exchange information and getting better understanding of each other. The Center is also ready to assist and create the most favourable conditions for enterprises if they demand.
