ADB Grants More Aids to Vietnam
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) will provide a US$87.39 million package of loans and grants to help Vietnam and Laos upgrade community-based disaster risk management and enhance regional forecasting to improve flood and drought preparedness in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).
On October 31, 2012, ADB announced to provide US$20 million in grants and loans to assist Vietnam and Laos in preventing the spread of HIV infections in 23 border provinces where risks are growing because of population movement and cross-border trading activities along economic corridors.
The lender will also provide US$90 million in fresh funds to help Vietnam strengthen teaching skills and courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and social sciences, to ensure upper secondary graduates have the skills to meet the country’s labour needs. The project will run for about seven years, with an expected completion date of December 2019.
