Vietnam Exports More Than 6.62 Million Tonnes of Rice
On November 12, the Vietnam Food Association announced the rice export situation as of the beginning of this year. Accordingly, from January 1 to November 8, the country exported more than 6.62 million tonnes of rice, valued at more than US$3 billion.
According to VFA, Vietnam enjoyed increases in rice prices for exports. Currently, the dry paddy price in the Mekong River Delta is around VND5,950 – 6,100 per kilogramme while long-seed paddy is priced at VND6,150-6,300 per kilogramme.
The price of material paddy type 1 also rose considerably and is now around VND7,950-8,100 per kilogramme depending on each locality, marking VND1,000-2,000 increase per kilogramme from the first months of 2012. For material paddy to make 25 percent broken rice now costs VND7,800-7,950 per kilogramme depending on each locality.
China and the Philippines continued to lead in consumption of Vietnamese rice over the past months. In addition, some big markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea and Indonesia are boosting imports of Vietnamese rice.
