The basis of clearly defining key industrial products not only helps increase exports and contributes significantly to local budget revenues, but also creates a breakthrough for rapid and sustainable development of industries in the industrialisation and modernisation process of the province towards 2015. Therefore, in recent times, Lam Dong province has implemented many programmes of effective development of key industrial products.
Specifically, Lam Dong province issued Decision 32/2008/QD-UBND on 7 August, 2008 publishing a list of prioritised industries, key industries for 2008-2010 period and vision to 2020 of Lam Dong province. To concretise the implementation of this decision, the industry and trade of Lam Dong has actively supported enterprises on free product introduction on the socio-economic information websites of the province and of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Moreover, it has also supported businesses and their products displaying products at trade fairs and exhibitions of the province and national fairs. In addition, it has supported the implementation of scientific research, technological development, environment protection and pilot production in order to improve technology and advanced new devices before being applied to industrial production. Additionally, the construction industry has also focused on research projects to develop key products and industrial products, thus recommending to the province industrial product development competitive advantages.

In the 2011-2015 development programme of key industrial products, Lam Dong will focus on developing industry storage and processing for fruits, vegetables, tea, and coffee; exploiting and processing bauxite and alumina; and promoting handicraft products. It also supports business to innovate technology, production lines and equipment for deep processing of agricultural products and handicrafts. It also builds supply chain industry associations such as Association of Vegetables, Association of Tea, Association of Coffee, Association of Artichoke, etc. In the first phase, the province will support partial funding to maintain activities of those associations through small and medium enterprise development programs.

At the same time, trade and industry of the province concentrated on establishing, maintaining and protecting trademarks and brand products. It also supports activities relying on cash for training and consulting, including guiding coordinating trademark registration like Dalat vegetables, Di Linh coffee, Tea Blao, etc. It helps businesses meet international quality standards such as ISO 9000, GMP, SA 8000, ISO 14000, HACCP, ISO 22000, etc. Depending on different conditions, each business focuses on investing into one or more appropriate standards.

The industry is paying due attention to supporting businesses on building strategies and plans for each period to use the investment capital effectively. Director of Lam Dong Department of Industry and Trade, Mr Huynh Ngoc Canh said that the total expected investment capital of industry development in the province of Lam Dong towards 2020 is worth US$88,000 billion. However, GDP accumulation capital only meets about 3-4 percent of the demand for investment. So the next time the province will focus on building new open policies, reforming administrative procedures to be able to attract other development investment, especially FDI for industry. Additionally, the province is also paying attention to making research and developing new products meeting modern market demands. At the same time, it actively lowers the costs of products on the basis of the strength of materials, advanced technologies and equipment investment.

Also according to Mr Canh, up to 2015, to increase the competitiveness of the industry, Lam Dong will focus on developing and improving the quality of human resources. Accordingly, the province will conduct annual surveys and labour-oriented industry forecasting, training planning, and selecting to attract labourers. Socializing vocational training and training a labour force with high qualifications in the industry, especially designing and product research and development staff, is paid due attention. In addition, the province will have the appropriate policies to attract high levels of quality manpower and capital investment of the economic sectors in the country and abroad.
