Exports to Middle East Surge in 2012
The Vietnamese General Department of Customs said Vietnam's exports to the Middle Eastern markets of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Iraq rose sharply in 2012. The country’s export turnover with the Middle East was estimated at US$4.2 billion in the year, an increase of 65 per cent compared to 2011.
Vietnam's exports to individual markets soared in 2012. It earned US$597 million from trade with Saudi Arabia, up 128 per cent year on year; US$2 billion with the UAE, up 115 per cent; US$278 million with Israel, up 60 per cent; and US$850 million with Turkey, up 8 per cent.
Key exports to the Middle East in 2012 were telephones and accessories, yarn, seafood, computers, electronic products and components, and apparels.
With its huge demand, the Middle East continues to be a major export market for Vietnamese exporters.
