Companies Attach Greater Importance to Social Responsibility

CSR Award 2012 has caught the attention and interest of many Vietnamese entrepreneurs, enterprises and the entire business community. Vietnam Business Forum excerpts remarks by top businesspeople regarding this issue.

At its annual strategy meetings, FPT Corporation introduces its CSR strategy and protects it like it defends business strategy. Previously, economic entities only cared about how to make most profit, but now all understand that we cannot have a developed economy in a volatile society and devastated environment. Therefore, business leaders must always ensure the harmony of three factors: Profit, People and Planet (3P) in the company’s business strategy. When we become a leading technology company in Vietnam, we care about sustainable development. Accordingly, the corporation thoroughly carries out the 3P strategy. Since the FPT Strategy Conference in 2011, FPT has been clearly aware that its individual acts of goodwill produced significant results. Thus, with its position, FPT determines to employ its core values, technology, to support the development of the society. FPT always spares a part of its profits to improve material and spiritual life of the employees and a part for social activities and comply with environmental protection regulations and environmental protective initiatives.

In recent years, CSR is integrated into the company’s business strategy and becomes a condition for the company to develop, enhance and maintain competitive advantages because, apart from good reputation, the company   also gets other benefits such as improved labour relations, reduced labour accidents, decreased employee turnover, increased labour productivity and strengthened loyalty of employees to the company. Not only making effort in business development, Bao Long puts a premium on social responsibility and considers it an obligation to the community. “Corporate social responsibility not only means doing charity but, higher than that, it is the responsibility to the community and humanity". Bao Long always highly values the human element as it is considered the most important resource for its development. Every year, Bao Long contributes a lot to pro-poor funds, natural disaster victims and humane campaigns and activities well as.

The CSR Award is an important, practical and significant honour. I think that if we have a lot of businesspeople and enterprises engaged in social responsibility, the campaign will go nationwide. In many developed countries, social welfare is huge, they can pay unemployed staffs. Vietnam is still poor, particularly now, and people tend to tighten their belts. So, who will give a helping hand if entrepreneurs and businesses do not act as a vanguard? These honouring activities will make companies still ignorant of CSR think again. I hope more companies will join forces in this work.

In the current context of economic upheaval, in addition to business performance objectives, LORUCO always demonstrates its corporate social responsibility to its employees as well as localities with its business presence. To speed up and strengthen social responsibility, in addition to employment and environment criteria, the company also takes care of other aspects like social security, especially transportation systems, schools, clinics, hospitals, and charity.
