South African Firms Interested in Vietnam Market
In an attempt to further promote trade relations between South Africa and Vietnam, and help Vietnamese enterprises access updated market information and diversify input and product supply sources, the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI-HCM) has joined hands with the South African Embassy in Vietnam to organise the “Vietnam - South Africa Business Exchange” Programme.
In recent years, Vietnam and South Africa have witnessed significant progress in trade relations. While bilateral trade turnover reached only US$192 million in 2007, the value climbed to US$723 in 2012, an increase of 250 per cent, of which Vietnam earned US$612 million from its exports to South Africa, a 6-fold increase over 2007.
At the meeting, South African businesses introduced their products and services to Vietnamese partners, including food, wine, steelmaking, diamond processing and ICT training. South African firms said that in addition to traditional European markets, they are shifting the focus to Asian markets, including Vietnam - a very potential market.
