First Alumina Plant in Vietnam Starts Successful Commissioning
The Vietnam National Coal, Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) said its Tan Rai alumina plant, a component in the Lam Dong aluminium bauxite complex in Lam Dong province has been successfully commissioned at the full designed capacity. During the test-run period, the plant produced nearly 100,000 tonnes of alumina.
During the commissioning duration, the contractor has calibrated technical indicators and decided not to raise the capacity. Vinacomin coordinated with the contractor to address shortcomings to gradually increase capacity. The plant recently reached its full capacity, or 650,000 tonnes a year. With the stable rest-run at the full capacity, the contractor will hand over the plant to Vinacomin soon.
The alumina purity reaches 98.6 percent, meeting export requirements. However, this indicator and other ones can be adjusted in production. Out of nearly 100,000 tonnes of alumina produced during the commissioning period, over 80,000 tonnes have been sold. Both domestic and international customers are satisfied with the quality and other tech specifications of the product. Vinacomin sold alumina to domestic firms and exported to two partners from Switzerland and South Korea. The group is in talks with four other partners from Japan, China, Singapore and Iran on alumina purchase from Vinacomin.
