Con Dao to Become Tourism and Service Economic Special Area by 2010

 

Con Dao Island will become a tourism and service economic special area of southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province by 2010 with the major activities of eco-tourism, historical tourism, and development of its marine economy, according to the province’s master development planning from now to 2010.

 

Con Dao by that time will have a population of around 10,000 people, 1,100 hectares of construction area, and 2,035 hectares of spare area in Con Dao national park. Apart from using VND200 billion (US$12.82 million) in building infrastructure works, Con Dao will establish two new small towns of Co Ong and Ben Dam.

 

The provincial People's Committee will ask the Government to spend between VND1,500-2,000 billion (US$128.2 million) annually on offering soft loans to investors to build infrastructure in the special area, and apply a series of special preferential policies.
