Dr Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), has hosted a meeting with a representative delegation of the Shanghai Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT Shanghai), led by CCPIT Vice Chairman Wang Lie.
The meeting with VCCI aimed to study Vietnam’s economic situation and investment environment and strengthen cooperation exchanges between VCCI and CCPIT Shanghai in exhibitions, investment and economic arbitration.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on Vietnam - China trade relations and agreed that the growing bilateral trade turnover had positively contributed to Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic cooperation relations. Both sides need to make an effort to balance the trade gap, because the current huge trade gap is not good for either Vietnam (suffering deficit) or China (gaining surplus).

Both sides were pleased to see that despite Vietnam’s huge trade deficit with China, the former enjoyed a surplus in trade with Shanghai in 2012. This is a good sign for both sides to narrow the gap and balance Vietnam - China trade turnover.

According to CCPIT Shanghai, trade turnover between Vietnam and Shanghai in 2012 reached US$5.7 billion, of US$2.4 billion was for Shanghai and US$3.4 billion was for Vietnam.

Mr Wang Lie said the VCCI - CCPIT Shanghai cooperation in economic arbitration is good for the settlement of trade disputes between the two countries, and hoped that VCCI will strengthen cooperation in this area. The two sides should also strengthen the exchange of information on investment environment to support businesses of the two countries to study markets.

Besides, CCPIT Shanghai plans to hold a conference on Shanghai high-quality goods in Vietnam and looks forward to support from VCCI.

Dr Doan Duy Khuong agreed with Mr Wang Lie and expressed his confidence in enhanced cooperation between VCCI and CCPIT.
