Tay Ninh Sugar Limited Company, previously Tay Ninh Sugar Company, was established by the People’s Committee of Tay Ninh in 1980. Experiencing many ups and downs of the economy, the Tanisugar brand has become more and more professional. Diversified products, and dedicated and sufficient human resources have raised the Tanisugar brand to become a pilot of socio-economic development of Tay Ninh province.
Tanisugar is a familiar brand to Tay Ninh people because it has accompanied Tay Ninh’s agriculture with many local agricultural products, especially from major crops like sugarcane and rubber. For the past years, with available scale and capacity, Tanisugar has continuously expanded its network and traded in many fields like: growing and processing, trading products from sugarcane, flour and rubber trees; producing wooden, plastic products and construction materials; animal food; importing – exporting; trading materials and equipments used in producing sugar, flour and rubber, plastic, construction materials; constructing: building, manufacturing and installing equipment for processing agricultural and industrial products; through 12 member companies like: Nuoc Trong Joint Stock Company with capacity of 1,000 tonnes a day; Rice Export Company of 40,000 tonnes a year; Tapico Joint Stock Company of 120 tonnes a day; Rubber Joint Stock Company of 7,500 tonnes a year.

With 4,076 ha of land assigned by the province, the company has flexibly planned to develop proper trees, including about 1,700 ha of sugarcane, 500 ha of flour and cash crop flour and manioc in the area of sugarcane, which helps stabilise operation of the company’s members. For the past years, the company has focused on developing crop structures, applying modern technology, mechanizing fields to increase productivity not only in the land it managed, but also in over 1,000 ha of sugarcane of local people. As for concentrated material area, the company has developed the electricity network to provide energy for irrigation to improve productivity, help local people feel secure to focus on growing sugarcane.

As a large scale company, it cannot avoid the situation of “large ships suffer large storms”, especially in the context of current difficulties. The biggest difficulties are unstable prices, high competition due to capacity increase of many factories in the same area of the flour sector. As for sugar sector, it is hard to deal with large inventories, decreasing material area and competition with large amount of sugar imported from Thailand. For the first 9 months of 2013, Tanisugar achieved about 58 percent of revenues, equivalent to VND379 billion; income reached about VND16 billion. The Management Board of the company has strived to find solutions through gradual organizational restructure, withdrawing capital in several member companies, focusing on major fields to improve productivity to obtain plans this year and in the future.

Moreover, besides efforts of the company, it is necessary to have support from Tay Ninh People’s Committee and relevant authorities to solve administrative procedures, taxes, as well as to strictly handle land evasion. Moreover, the province should have supporting policies and detailed development plans for major crops, only then people can enjoy benefits from their efforts.
