Tariffs Likely Slashed by Half for Electronic Components
The Ministry of Finance is pondering over the reduction of import tax on electronic components by half, but there will definitely be no zero reduction as requested from local assemblers, asserted officials with the ministry recently.
Specifically, electronic components which are subject to 10 percent of import tax are likely to have the tax rate adjusted down to 5 percent and similarly from 20 percent to 10 percent and 30 percent to 15 percent in corresponding products.
Officials said the adjustment will be based on a principle which both enables electronic assemblers and local producers, and at the same time doesn’t put pressure on the country’s negotiations for WTO membership.
