Quang Ngai province has recently attracted many big domestic and foreign investment projects, thus becoming an ideal destination for investors. This success is attributed to professional, focused investment promotion.
Mr Nguyen Duc Thanh, Director of the Quang Ngai Investment Promotion Centre, said that in the frst six months of 2015, the centre actively launched many investment promotion plans in a variety of forms like making direct contact and meeting, organising promotion conferences, building documents and the list of investment attraction projects, advertising local potential and advantages on different communication channels, and enhancing and establishing cooperation ties with international promotion agencies like Kotra and Jetro. The centre advised the Department of Planning and Investment to ask the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) - Danang Branch to sign a cooperation agreement with the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee, under which VCCI will assist the province in investment promotion and business matching; consulted the Department of Planning and Investment to ask the Provincial People’s Committee to cooperate with VCCI - Danang Branch PVcomBank - Quang Ngai Branch to organise training workshops on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) and free trade agreements (FTAs) for local businesses.
The centre also provided information, introduced the local investment environment to mass media agencies and advised the Department of Planning and Investment to create lists of agricultural investment attraction projects approved by the Provincial People’s Committee. Specially, the centre advised the Department of Planning and Investment to successfully organise Quang Ngai Investment Promotion Conference in 2015 on the occasion of the “Week of Vietnam Sea and Islands” held in Quang Ngai province. The investment promotion event in 2015 became an important landmark to introduce local potential and investment opportunities, and drew the attention and interest of domestic and foreign businesses. Besides, central and local media agencies reported on this event.
Thach said that investment promotion faced a lot of difficulties due to global and domestic economic challenges in early 2016. Thus, Quang Ngai province will focus on locally advantageous areas to draw investment capital.
Accordingly, Quang Ngai will exert a pull on FDI projects for targeted fields, particularly those using deepwater seaports, requiring large land areas, drawing supporting industries or sourcing local inputs, logistic projects and petrochemical projects from Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. The province will also attract domestic investment projects for manufacturing, trade and service industries, cooperate with the Coastal Region Coordinating Board to hold investment promotion events in the province and take part in domestic and international investment promotion programmes. Quang Ngai will lure investment capital for sectors and fields granted TPP tariff incentives like fabrics, textiles, garments, footwear when Vietnam becomes a TPP member.
