Fruit and vegetable export turnover was estimated at US$1.3 billion in the first nine months this year, a year-on-year rise of 116 percent, according to statistics by the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association (Vinafruit).

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable products appeared in 40 countries and territories with main markets of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), the US, Malaysia and Thailand.

China is the largest importer, making up 64.2 percent of the country’s total with main products such as mango, blue dragon and rambutan. It was followed by Japan and the RoK.

Recently, more and more fruit and vegetable area’s meeting VietGap standard helped Vietnam’s products meet the standards of importers and access to markets with the most exacting standards such as the US, Australia, the EU and Japan.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade was cautious to set the year’s export target of US$1.65 billion (the figure for 2014 was US$1.5 billion), but many experts said that Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export turnover would likely reach US$2 billion.
