"Vietnam - Korea Economic Cooperation Following VKFTA"

This is the theme of the First Vietnam - Korea Economic Forum and Vietnam - Korea Friendship Golf Tournament to be held in Hanoi on November 13-14, 2015. This forum is hosted by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in cooperation with Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), aimed to further promote bilateral economic ties and strengthen cooperation opportunities in the context that Vietnam is actively participating in bilateral and regional free trade agreements.
In recent years, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam - Republic of Korea (ROK) has enjoyed steady growth. ROK is always a top foreign investor in Vietnam and a potential trade partner of Vietnam.
The Vietnam - Korea Economic Forum 2015 is expected to draw the participation of some 400 delegates from ROK and Vietnam, including government officials, economic experts, businessmen and media agencies of the two countries.
The forum will discuss current developments, propose measures to enhance Vietnam - ROK investment and trade relations following the enforcement of Vietnam - Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA).
In addition, the forum is also a place for Vietnamese and ROK businesses to meet, exchange and seek investment opportunities. In particular, the event also provides an opportunity for businesses to directly speak with government representatives, leaders and local authorities.
According to the organisers, the main session, Policy Dialogue, will discuss the business environment and economic development orientation of Vietnam in the 2015-2020 period; highlight Vietnam - ROK economic situations, cooperation prospects following the enforcement of VKFTA, and VKFTA benefits for businesses of the two countries. Besides, the event will reveal basic information on Korean firms’ investment strategies in Vietnam after the signing of VKFTA. The forum will also recommend the two governments to promote trade and investment cooperation.
 
Panel sessions will discuss three main fields: Cooperation in infrastructure and energy, bilateral cooperation in supporting industries, and cooperation in agriculture.
 
The session on Vietnam - ROK cooperation in infrastructure development and energy will hinge on cooperation in infrastructure construction development (Vietnam infrastructure development planning and orientation, bilateral cooperation in technology transfer in infrastructure construction and development, ROK’s investment directions to Vietnam’s infrastructure in the future, and capital demand and sources for infrastructure development projects in Vietnam). On energy cooperation, participants will debate Vietnam’s energy development strategy in the 2016-2020 phase as well as bilateral cooperation in energy human resources training.
On Vietnam - ROK cooperation in supporting industries, the forum will delve into the supporting industry development strategy launched by the Government of Vietnam, share experience of ROK Government and businesses in developing support industries, and debate supplier development, support and financing programmes.
The final session will discuss Vietnam - ROK agricultural cooperation. This will talk about ROK’s demands for agricultural and aquatic products, realities and solutions to improve product quality and boost trade and investment cooperation in agriculture, cooperation in technology transfer and processing, and ROK businesses’ agricultural investment orientations in Vietnam. Specifically, participants will have an opportunity to speak out difficulties of Vietnamese businesses when they export agricultural and seafood products to ROK.
