Regarding cooperation with VCCI, Dr Khuong added VCCI signed a cooperation agreement with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Indonesia KADIN on May 30, 2005, in Hanoi. In June 2012, VCCI in collaboration with the Embassy of Indonesia in Hanoi organised a seminar on trade cooperation, investment and tourism.
According to statistics, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Indonesia in 2014 reached US$5.4 billion. In the first 9 months of 2015 this figure reached nearly US$3.5 billion, up more than 6 percent over the same period of 2014. The two sides set a two-way trade target of US$10 billion in 2018. Indonesia has similar import and export structures to Vietnam, in which the strength of Vietnam exports to Indonesia are rice and crude oil; the strength of Indonesia exports to Vietnam are some items for industrial production such as chemicals, pulp, raw materials, leather, and especially fertilizer. In fact over the years, the amount of fertilizer that Vietnam has imported from Indonesia is very large.
Ambassador Mayerfas said 2013 left its mark in important cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia as two countries established a "Strategic Partnership". In particular, in 2015, the two countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties, marking 60 years of friendship and solidarity between the two peoples.
Currently Vietnam and Indonesia are also trying to maximize the strengths of cooperation in other potential fields such as security and defence, agriculture, fisheries, energy, education - training, and culture tourism, to strengthen the coherence and complementarity between the two economies.
Regarding business opportunities for Vietnam, Ambassador Mayerfas asserted, Indonesia also has many open opportunities and welcomes foreign investors including Vietnam. Indonesia is pushing to improve its investment environment and calling for foreign investors with attractive incentives. The potential areas which Vietnam enterprises can participate in investment, business and market expansion in Indonesia are infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, ports, mining; alternative industries for import or labour-intensive industries.
Ambassador Mayerfas said Vietnam-Indonesia Business Forum and Indonesia Expo are two major events within the "Forum of Trade, Tourism, and Investment of Indonesia", which will take place on December 10-12, 2015. The forum is an invaluable opportunity for businesses from both countries to meet, exchange information and boost opportunities for collaboration in the future.
As representative for the VCCI, Dr Doan Duy Khuong affirmed commitment that VCCI is ready to create favourable conditions for Indonesia businesses to invest in Vietnam and will coordinate closely with the Embassy to successfully organise the Forum in December in Hanoi. VCCI President Vu Tien Loc will attend this special event.
