Vinacoal - Hero in Vietnam's Renovation Process

The Vietnam Coal Corporation (Vinacoal) on January 18, 2005 held a ceremony to receive the title called "The Hero in the Renovation (Doi Moi) Process". Mrs. Truong Thi My Hoa, Vice President of the State of Vietnam, solemnly attached the title on Vinacoal's flag.

Vinacoal, set up in 1994, remarked its 10th birthday last year with the recorded achievement of producing and selling 24.7 million tonnes of coal (up 6 million tonnes over 2004), including 10.5 million tonnes for export (up 4 million tonnes) and the remainder for local consumption 9 (up 2 million tonnes).

In recent years, Vinacoal has firmly diversifying its business lines based on the coal industry. The orientation includes building thermo-electricity plants using low-temperature coal; developing its engineering industry to be able to manufacture and assemble trucks and building ships; and manufacturing explosives to meet the demand for coal exploitation and demands for mine explosion of other enterprises.

In addition, the corporation has ensured orders in coal exploitation activities, and actively improved working conditions and living standards for its workers.
