US$197Mln Shipyard to Be Built in Central Vietnam

The Nha Trang Shipbuilding Industry Co. has decided to invest about VND3,098 billion (US$197 million) to build a shipyard in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

The company expects to begin construction of the 54-ha Cam Ranh Shipyard in Cam Ranh Town this year and schedules for completion in 2007.

The company will invest VND598 billion (US$38 million) in the first stage and VND2,500 billion (US$159 million) in the second phase. The investment capital will come from the State budget, preferential loans and other sources, a corporate official said.

The shipyard, designed by the Vinashin Investment and Trade Consultancy Co., will be capable of building large passenger ships and cargo freighters of 50,000 DWT and will provide jobs for 4,000 people.
