On the occasion that a Turkish business delegation led by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) paid a working visit to Ho Chi Minh City, VCCI-HCM held the “Vietnam - Turkey Business Meeting” to provide a platform for Vietnamese and Turkish companies to meet, discuss matters of mutual interest and establish long-term cooperative ties. The event drew the participation of nearly 30 Vietnamese companies and 20 Turkish companies engaged in various areas like manufacturing of agricultural machinery, livestock production, pharmaceutical export, confectionery production, logistics, consumer electronics production, and metal cable recycling technology.
Delivering an opening speech, Mr Nguyen The Hung, Deputy Director of VCCI - HCM, said, since the two nations established diplomatic ties, the bilateral ties have been developed well in all aspects, particularly economic cooperation, trade and investment. In 2015, Vietnam and Turkey signed the Agreement on Promotion and Protection of Bilateral Investment and the Agreement on Avoiding Double Taxation. The two sides are pushing to conclude ongoing agreement negotiations, including the Air Service Transit Agreement, the Customs Cooperation Agreement, and the Marine Agreement to perfect the legal framework to create favourable conditions for companies of the two countries to do business in each other. Besides, Turkish Airlines’ direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Istanbul - Turkey (instead of transiting via Bangkok Airport, Thailand as now) will be officially opened in late June 2016 to facilitate the movement of citizens and trading between the two countries.

Currently, Turkey is an important trading partner and the largest export market of Vietnam in the Central Asian region. The bilateral trade has made a remarkable progress in recent years, evidenced by the rise of the two-way trade value from US$1 billion in 2012 to US$1.5 billion in 2015. The two nations expected to push the value to US$3 billion in 2016. Turkey now has 13 investment projects in Vietnam with a total capital of US$730 million.

He said “"With the increasingly strengthened political and diplomatic foundation, the legal framework for cooperation is being completed with joint efforts of two business communities, the objective of US$3 billion of two-way trade revenue in 2016 is entirely within reach. As the 17th largest economy in the world, Turkey is also a gateway to the Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Therefore, by successfully penetrating this potential market, Vietnamese companies have set one foot into broader markets of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.”

Mr Ozcan Dogu Kaya, a representative from the Turkish Exporters Association, said, the Vietnam - Turkey Business Meeting will bring many business and investment cooperation opportunities and networking development for the business community. Turkish companies are very interested in the Vietnamese market and want, through this forum, to find right partners for their long-term and sustainable business and investment development. He emphasised that the greatest desire of Turkish companies is the Government of Vietnam will create favourable conditions, especially legal procedures, for Turkish companies to easily establish long-term investment cooperation relations in Vietnam.
