Energy, urban and natural resources will be discussed at 3GF Forum, heard at the working meeting hosted by VCCI Deputy General Secretary Nguyen Quang Vinh to Special Envoy Geert Aagaard Andersen of the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) at VCCI Head Office in Hanoi. During his working visit to Vietnam, Mr Geert Aagaard Andersen also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in green growth.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Geert Aagaard Andersen said that Denmark and Vietnam have long-term cooperation in green growth. 3GF Forum, initiated in 2011, is a forum for public-private cooperation, chaired by the Danish Government. Denmark and seven national governments together with a number of businesses discussed green growth issues, including efficient energy saving, renewable energy, land cleaning for cleaner and sustainable agricultural production, how to recycle waste to build circular economy.
He said Denmark and Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in November 2015 to which Vietnam became the eighth 3GF major member together with Denmark, South Korea, Mexico, China, Kenya, Qatar and Ethiopia. Vietnam is the only ASEAN country at 3GF.
Regarding the upcoming forum, he added that 3GF participants will focus on three key content areas, namely how to reduce emissions in the energy field by converting from fossil energy to new energy sources, sustainable urban planning; and protection of natural resources. Participating countries will discuss how to reduce emissions in the energy sector through the conversion of fossil energy use to other renewable energy sources.
On urban area topic, the forum will debate a number of issues such as how to make cities more sustainable; how to use consumed products, e.g. water in cities and surrounding areas, how to plan to travel from one point to another with the least energy used. By changing vehicles for travelling, a lot of energy needed will be reduced.
The third topic of discussion will be natural resources. The forum will delve into two sub-topics, namely water and forests, focusing on how to reduce the amount of water used and reuse water and how to reduce the loss of forest area.
Sharing his consents, VCCI Deputy General Secretary Nguyen Quang Vinh affirmed that the three topics to be discussed at the upcoming 3GF Forum draw much of attention from Vietnam. Vietnam also has a national strategy for green growth, which importantly directs green growth development in Vietnam.
Mentioning operational results of the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD), he said, VBCSD has launched many activities and obtained significant achievements in promoting its roles and soliciting active supports of the business community in carrying out sustainable development strategy in Vietnam in recent years.
The Council has communicated and raised the awareness and understanding of the business sector and the entire society in sustainable development topics and areas, including sustainability reporting, corporate sustainability index (CSI), corporate social responsibility (CSR), cleaner production and waste management, efficient use of energy and adaptation to climate change, sustainable agriculture development. He hoped that 3GF Forum in Denmark will be an opportunity for Vietnam to recommend its ideas and learn new lessons of green growth from countries to make sustainable change.
