Toyota Sells Over 40,000 Cars in Vietnam to Date
Toyota has reported to sell over 40,000 cars in Vietnam since its debut in the country nine years ago, maintaining the largest carmaker in Vietnam up to now.
In 2004, Toyota sold 9,150 cars in the country, a fall of 22 per cent on year from 11,769 units in 2003.
It held 22.8 per cent of the Vietnamese auto market share last year, down from 27.7 per cent in 2003, but still much higher than that of its rivals like Ford (14 per cent), Mitsubishi (13.4 per cent) and GM-Daewoo (12.7 per cent).
The Japanese automaker earned US$250 million from selling cars in Vietnam in the year.
According to Toyota, Zace and Altis are among the best sellers of Toyota in Vietnam, with over 10,000 units of each model.
Toyota has been awarded the Dragon Prize, which praises best performing foreign-invested companies in Vietnam. This is the fourth time in a row Toyota received this award.
To expand operation in Vietnam, Toyota has open two new auto sales and service centers in Hanoi and Dak Lak province.
Toyota has also wanted to turn Vietnam into an auto parts exporting center in Southeast Asia by setting up new branches in Vietnam like Toyoda Boshoku and Toyoda Gosei, which specialise produces car accessories.
Toyota's branch in Vietnam has total chartered capital of US$89.14 million.
