Vietjet Air to Purchase 100 Boeing Aircrafts worth US$11.3 Bln

Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company on May 23 finalised an order with the US’s Boeing Commercial Airplanes to purchase 100 B737 MAX 200 aircrafts with a total contract value of US$11.3 billion.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and US President Barack Obama.

At the ceremony, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner said that Incorporating the latest design and technology features, the highly efficient B737 MAX 200 will provide Vietjet’s growing network with market-leading economics, a superior passenger experience and significantly contribute to their future success.

Vietjet’s President and CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao emphasised that the investment in B737 MAX 200 planes will accommodate the company’s strategy of developing its international route network, including long haul flights.

In addition, she affirmed that through this contract, Vietjet would contribute to increasing bilateral trade turnover as well as integration and development of the aviation industry in Vietnam.

The airplanes will be delivered to Vietjet between 2019 and 2023, serving the company’s plans for expanding its operation on both domestic and regional routes.

The B737 MAX 200 airplanes integrate the most advanced CFM International LEAP-1B engines, high-tech winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and comfort to passengers.

With the contract, Vietjet Air will operate more than 200 new and modern aircrafts in the world by 2023.

Also at the signing ceremony, Vietjet and Pratt&Whitney under the United Technologies Corporation from the US signed a contract supplying PurePower Geared Turbofan engines as well as providing maintenance service for the fleet of A320 NEO and A321 NEO that Vietjet ordered at Airshow Singapore in February.
