OSC Vietnam: Taking Advantages, Pushing up Tourism Promotion

The State-run National Oil Services Company Vietnam (OSC Vietnam), under the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, was established on June 23, 1971. Despite difficulties and challenges from increasingly fierce competition as the country is on the way of international integration, the company has constantly developed both in scale and scope of operation.

Based in the coastal southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, OSC Vietnam has 11 affiliates, six joint ventures and shares in two joint stock companies. It has 12 hotels of 2-4 star standard, one high grade tenement and 36 villas with total 1,095 bedrooms together with modern equipment in the tourism sector and the petrol and oil industry. The company provides services in tourism, real estate, transport, healthcare, sports, construction, training, import-export, and others that serve foreign oil companies in Vietnam.

The Tourism Administration of Vietnam’s strategy for tourism development by 2010 is considered an important premise for the stable development of OSC Vietnam. Despite However, the company is facing difficulties, mostly due to shoddy infrastructure, lack of alliance strength due to concentration of the hotel system in the city centre, capital shortages and high land rent tax.

The company’s total turnover in 2003 was VND493.4 billion and visitors came up to 64,954. In 2004, the proceeds rose to over VND572 billion. Most of the travelers come from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Singapore, the United States, Taiwan and Thailand.

OSC Vietnam has established the OSC Sports & Tourism Joint Stock Company with first phase investment of VND8 billion, a branch in Con Dao Island, and is negotiating with partners on a project to build Thang Muoi B hotel complex. Together with plans on human resource training, it is going to reorganize its structure in the form of parent-affiliate model. OSC Vietnam is an official member of PATA, ASTA, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Vietnam Tourism Association.
