The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said Vietnam was projected to earn US$15.05 billion from exporting agricultural, forest and aquatic products in the first six months of 2016, up 5.4 per cent year on year.
Particularly, agricultural exports brought in US$7.32 billion, up 5.1 per cent from a year earlier, aquatic exports fetched US$3.07 billion, up 3.8 per cent, and forest product exports generated US$3.33 billion, down 0.1 per cent.
Rice export was estimated at 2.69 million tonnes worth US$1.21 million, down 9.8 per cent in volume and 5.9 per cent in value from the same period of 2015. The rice export price averaged US$449 per tonne in the first five months of 2016, 3.28 per cent higher than the corresponding period of 2015. China was still the biggest importer of Vietnamese rice with 803,100 tonnes worth US$371.98 million, down 12.76 per cent in volume and 1.8 per cent in value from a year earlier. Indonesia was the second largest importer of Vietnamese rice with 350,700 tonnes valued US$139.14 million, up 44.3 times in volume and 43.5 times in value year on year. Strong export growth was recorded with Ghana (38.36 per cent) and Taiwan (24.04 per cent).
Coffee export totalled 985,000 tonnes valued at US$1.71 billion, up 39.8 per cent in volume and 17.6 per cent in value over the same period of 2015. The average coffee export price was US$1,713 per tonne in the first five months of 2016, down 17 per cent from a year ago. Germany and the United States were the two largest buyers of Vietnamese coffee in the first five months of 2016, with respective market shares of 15.85 per cent and 12.89 per cent.
Rubber shipments totalled 429,000 tonnes worth US$532 million in the first six months, up 3.5 per cent in volume but down 11.9 per cent in value year on year. Rubber export price averaged US$1,224 per tonne in the first five months of 2016, down 15.17 per cent year on year. China and India were the two biggest rubber markets of Vietnam in the five-month phase, accounting for 62.95 per cent of the market share.
Seafood exports valued US$3.07 billion in the January - June period, up 3.8 per cent year on year. The United States, Japan, China and South Korea were the four biggest importers of Vietnamese seafood in the first five months of 2016, accounting for 52.81 per cent of total seafood export value. In the first five months of 2016. Shipments to the US climbed 10.9 per cent, to China up 49.06 per cent, to Thailand up 9.92 per cent and to the United Kingdom up 8.83 per cent.
Woodwork export value reached US$3.17 billion in the first six months, down 0.1 per cent from the same period of 2015. The US, Japan and China accounted for 67.72 per cent of Vietnam’s total woodwork export value. Growth was seen in shipments to the US (7.66 per cent), Japan (1.33 per cent), South Korea (17.7 per cent), the UK (9.91 per cent), Australia (7.53 per cent) and the Netherlands (4.22 per cent).
