Medal Awarded to First Secretary of Australian Embassy
On August 2, Mr Le Quoc Doanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, presented the Medal of the Cause of Agriculture and Rural Development to Madam Wendy Conway Lamp, First Secretary of the Embassy of Australia in Vietnam. This is a prestigious award for international specialists and officers working in Vietnam with positive contributions to sector development.
During her 2013 - 2016 term in Vietnam, she has developed positive cooperative relations with Vietnamese scientists and officers in implementing the AUD15-million Community-based Climate Change Action Grants (CBCCAG) Programme, the AUD23-million Integrated Coastal Management Programme (ICMP) and the AUD2.8-million “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Disaster Risk Management in Vietnam” Programme. She was devoted to developing partnerships, particularly for sustainable development in the Mekong Delta. She also proposed community-based climate change response measures.
Deputy Minister Doanh said all projects and programmes that Madam Wendy directly managed involved major urgent issues given high priority by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. These projects and programmes are positively helping Vietnam to overcome damage caused by natural disasters, as well as sustainable development. Vietnam cherished and appreciated those contributions, he stressed.
