Air France to Suspend Direct Flights to Vietnam

Air France will suspend direct flights from Paris to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for six months in the end of March, a company official said on February 17.

The airline will suspend its code-share contract with Vietnam Airlines for non-stop direct flights between France and Vietnam between March 26 and October 10 to concentrate on more lucrative Chinese and Japanese routes.

Following this decision, Air France, as of March 26, 2005, will only run four flights a week to Ho Chi Minh City, and three to Hanoi, with a stop-over in Bangkok.

In April 2004, Air France inked a code-share agreement with national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to become the first Western carrier to operate non-stop flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with 12 flights a week, including five flights to Hanoi and seven to Ho Chi Minh City.
