Chu Lai Airport to Receive First Commercial Flights in March

The Central Aviation Authority (CAA) will officially launch the first two commercial routes from Chu Lai Airport in central Quang Nam province to the country’s two major economic centers Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on March 22 this year.

According to Pham Vu Hien, CAA’s newly-appointed general director, the opening of these flights will help attract domestic and foreign investment capital inflow into Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and Dung Quat Oil Refinery Industrial Zone.

CAA and Quang Nam province have agreed to propose the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to operate Tan Son Nhat-Chu Lai and Noi Bai-Chu Lai routes with three flights per week for each.

Quang Nam province already invested over VND50 billion (US$3.18 million) in building roads, power grids and water supply systems for the airport, he said.

At present, the central and central highlands regions report nine civil airports operational, including one international airport.
