Vissan Import Export Corporation - A New Look Ahead
Vissan is one of leading trademarks in Vietnam in food processing. Its products have been voted by customers as Vietnamese high quality goods in seven consecutive years (1997-2003). To maintain and develop its business, enhancing the value of the trademark in the context of increasingly fierce competition and integration, Vissan is making attempts to overcome difficulties with proper development solutions.
Vissan is a supplier of safe meat. Over the past few years, the corporation has built and developed a network of safe and frozen meat stores in Ho Chi Minh City, the country's most ebullient economic center. The model of safe meat distribution has brought back a large competitive advantage for Vissan as customers are paying increasing attention to food safety. Along with organising more training on service skills for the staff, Vissan constantly renovates slaughtering process, seriously complying with requirements on food safety and hygiene. The beef output reached 2,500 tons or nine tons a day in the first nine months of 2004, up 67 percent over the same period last year, while that of pork was 26,000 tons (96 tons per day), up 20 percent.
High appreciation is also given to processed products which are the result of the combination between advanced technology, ISO and HACCP quality management standards and traditional secret. Vissan’s processed food are consumed in dizzy volumes and have become a familiar product in Vietnamese kitchens. In Jan-Sep period of 2004, its processed food output reached nearly 7,200 tons, meeting 92 percent of yearly plan and was up 43 percent over same period in the previous year.
With a target of raising its sales volume, Vissan has opened more stores and branches in central Da Nang City which is seen a basis for expanding markets in the Central and Central Highlands regions. The corporation has also built a distribution network to markets, supermarkets, agents and retail stores nationwide. In the future, it will continue to place branches in Hanoi, Da Nang and Can Tho province as well as developing fast food stores that use Vissan’s products such as Hamburgers, sausages, smoked pork, and spring rolls. The model of safe meat distribution will be popularised in schools, State organisations, collective canteens, hotels and restaurants as an attempt to bring safe food to the community. Vissan has actively created a stable input source by developing high productivity breeds and animal feed to supply farmers and farms nationwide. The corporation plans to build a farm to fatten imported and locally raised oxen.
Much attention is also paid to the factor of environment. The corporation is removing the slaughter house into Tan Tao Industrial Park in parallel with installing a modern industrial slaughtering line with a capacity of 300 pigs and 100 oxen per hour. The Go Sao Husbandry Factory will be removed to Ben Cat District of Binh Duong Province while An Lac Wholesale Market will go to Binh Dien Trade Center. The corporation is seen as a pioneer in the production of safe food and a success in calling the public to use these products. Its products are also exported to Russia and other potential markets like South Korea, Japan, the United States and Canada. Vissan is calling for the State to turn out stricter slaughtering control measures, especially the re-planning of major slaughtering locations under State management.
