Nasco Looks to Higher Quality Service

Noi Bai Airport Services Company (Nasco) has made remarkable successes since its establishment 10 years ago.

The company gained total takings of VND108.4 billion (USUS$6.9 million) in 2000 but its income jumped to VND290 billion (USUS$18.47 million), up 2.68 folds compared with that in 2000 and 500 folds compared with the fixed establishment capital. The company has turned itself from a badly -performing enterprise with humble annual incomes and profits into the fastest developing and the most stable enterprise of the Vietnam Airlines.

In 1993, Noi Bai Airport Services Company, which was named Northern Airport Complex Services Company, then was a state-owned enterprise splitting from a trade, service and technique division of the Noi Bai International Airport. In the initial period, the company encountered shortages of capital, infrastructure and skilful workers.

The company started up business with only VND6 billion (USUS$382,165), old facilities and a poorly trained workforce (with 6.91 per cent passing universities and others without any special training). These difficulties seemed really inextricable. However, by their tireless efforts and a excellent leadership, the company has grasped all possible opportunities and realized breakthroughs and development factors in potential challenges and risks.

Despite poor facilities and an undeveloped airport market, the company still supported the establishment of a decentralized management mechanism to hoist internal forces and competences of subordinate units. Apart from its strengthening management apparatus, Nasco also considers upgrading operational facilities to be a crucial task. Therefore, the company has made outstanding changes in appearance since 1998. The company began purchasing new equipments, particularly specialized ones, like modern airport passenger carriers used in developed countries.

Nasco surveyed and analysed the market carefully before deciding to specially invest in duty-free goods trading and auto transportation, which in turns helped the company to broaden international ties to occupy the market and develop stably. In 1997 and 1998, in spite of suffering from the Asian financial crisis, the company still made VND80 billion (USUS$5.1 million). After the crisis, the recovery and the development of tourism and air transportation helped the company further expand its business. However, the international integration and cooperation tendency has forced enterprises to improve their own quality and edge their competitiveness. Nasco always strives to bring the best conveniences to customers.

Currently, besides fostering its affiliates - Noi Bai Airport Trading Enterprise, Noi Bai Airport General Service Enterprise, Noi Bai Airport Automobile Transport Enterprise, and Noi Bai Airport Hotel, Tourism Service Enterprise - Nasco has also expanded operation of duty-free goods division and two branches in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang City. These units are engaged in nine airway service and business fields. Mr. Dang Xuan Cu, the director of the company, said, "Multisided business will create a good balance between individual fields and support one another to develop. This is a foundation for stable and firm development. However, the company defines service and commercial business, duty- free goods trading and inland transportation will receive intensive investment from the company to secure stable and firm development.

Additionally, the company also attaches much importance to expanding production and business scales by investing to other localities beside Ho Chi Minh City and Danang City. It is investing in Nha Trang Town and is considering the engagement in the real estate market and the tourism and travelling business in both inside and outside markets. The company is mobilizing all available efforts to turn itself into a joint stock form, therefore, we are waiting feedbacks from customers.”

In the coming time, aside from completing necessary procedures to renew its operational form, Nasco is carrying out policies to rejuvenate its workforce, renovate the recruitment and salary mechanism, attract talented people and promote quality. It provides professional skills to its staff to please customers by the best conveniences. Using the  right operational policies, modern management methods and new operational mode (joint stock), Nasco will fly to a new level in the airline sector of Vietnam.
