The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee said the city’s export value reached US$14 billion in the first five months of this year, up 17.1 per cent year on year. In May alone, the City earned US$3.18 billion from exports, up 12 per cent month on month and 19.5 per cent year on year.
Shipments to some markets surged, including Singapore (up 142 per cent), Malaysia (98.3 per cent), Myanmar (63.4 per cent), India (51.4 per cent), Spain (50.4 per cent), Australia (49.1 per cent) and China (35.9 per cent).
Meanwhile, the city spent US$16.6 billion on imports in the January-May period, up 18 per cent year on year. Key imports included equipment and inputs for production from various countries like China, India and Cambodia.
