UK Funds USUS$1Mln for Rural Transport Development

The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has officially provided US$1 million for Vietnam to develop rural transport systems, according to an agreement signed on March 9 in Hanoi.

The funding will be used to implement rural transport projects in the northern mountainous provinces of Phu Tho and Lao Cai, which is part of the rural transport project III co-financed by DFID and the World Bank.

Each beneficiary will receive US$500,000 to carry out the project in the pilot year, 2005.

DFID also pledged to assist some other studies to draw experience on auditing procedures and State budget support, which will facilitate the implementation of the rural transport project III.
