Boosting Green and Sustainable Growth in Industry
Being ranked in the middle of Mekong Delta provinces in terms of socio-economic development at a decent level, Bac Lieu province has set up many practical policies for industry to grow in a green and sustainable way. By 2020, industry will become a key economic sector, creating a driving force to promote the economic structure of the province towards industrialization and modernization.

In 2018, industry in Bac Lieu province has achieved many successes. Industrial production index increased by 12.30% year on year. In particular, the mining industry increased by 13.84%; processing and manufacturing industry increased by 12.32%; the production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning increased by 12.476%; water supply, waste management and treatment activities increased 8.81% compared to the same period last year. The situation of manufacturing enterprises in the province continues to develop and has stable growth. The total value of exports reached US$ 641.79 million, equal to 100% of the plan, up 14.34% over the same period; exported seafood reached over 56.6 thousand tons, equaling 102.76 % of the plan, up 13.44% over the same period. The trade-service system is also experiencing strong growth as many supermarkets, trade centers and shopping shops have been invested in modern and professional ways. "Bac Lieu has continuously focused on trade promotion. It is to create conditions for localities, units and enterprises to have opportunities to meet, exchange experiences, transfer technology, introduce brand and products to expand the trade promotion market, tourism and investment,” Mr. Tran Danh Tuyen, Deputy Director of Bac Lieu Department of Industry and Trade, said.
Also in 2018, the total amount of retail and service goods circulation on the domestic market is estimated at over 54.1 trillion VND, equaling 95.07% of the plan, up 13.19% over the same period.

In 2019, the industry strives to increase by 12.89% compared to 2018; export turnover to reach US$ 690 million, up 13% compared to 2018; Total retail and service turnover of VND 66 trillion, an increase of 21.79% compared to 2018. The industry will continue to follow the State's resolutions and directives and supporting agencies investors in production.
Bac Lieu is a locality with potential and advantages in developing agricultural and aqua-product processing industry, especially processing shrimp for export. Recognizing this, over the past time, in addition to creating conditions for businesses to attract investment, the province also created opportunities for businesses to access capital for expanding processing capacity to have sufficient goods for export, meeting the quality standards of importing countries. Bac Lieu also develops policies and at the same time encourages businesses to maintain traditional export markets to continue to increase export turnover, especially key markets such as Japan, EU, USA, China, Korea and Taiwan, and continues to expand to new markets.
In addition, the province has also focused on calling for investment in projects such as wind power and solar power. Accordingly, the planning of wind power development has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, by 2020, the province is to develop wind power projects with accumulated installed capacity of 401.2 MW; with wind power output of approximately 882 million KWh. Regarding solar power, many domestic and foreign investors have applied for research, survey and investment. The continuation to promote the development of trade - services associated with tourism development will be an important breakthrough to effectively exploit the potentials and strengths of the province.
The province has and will have many industrial promotion programs and projects to best promote the advantages and exploit the potential and available resources on natural resources, raw materials, markets and labor to promote industry development. The province will simultaneously integrate industrial promotion programs with other national target programs to mobilize more capital for implementation of programs and projects.
