Nine More Power Plants to Be Built in Second Quarter

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) will build nine more power plants in the second half of this year.

The projects include the Kanak-An Khe hydro-electric power plant, the Hai Phong thermo-electric plant and the O Mon 1 power plant (scheduled for June). Also the Quang Ninh thermo-electric plant (August), the Ban Chat, Song Tranh 2 and Son La hydro electric power plants (November), and Srepok and Huoi Quang hydro electric power plant (December).

The Prime Minister has allowed EVN to borrow 15 per cent of its capital from commercial banks for investment, and is considering a proposal to allow it to borrow official development assistance capital.

After 2010, EVN plans to ask the government to allow investment in building hydro electric power projects in the Se San and Srepok rivers, downstream of Cambodia and a number of others in Laos in the build-operate-transfer model.
