The Vietnam Garment and Textile Association (Vitas) has asked members of the International Textiles and Clothing Bureau (ITCB) to support Vietnam’s WTO accession by removing quotas on Vietnamese garment and textile products, said a joint statement released at the recent 41st annual meeting of the ITCB in Bali, Indonesia.
In the second quarter of this year, Vietnam is likely to increase export turnover from garment and textile products, as the US has officially announced that it will implement special protective measures against garment and textile products imported from China, said the association.
Vietnam’s garment and textile exports to the US gained around US$500 million in the first three months of this year, including over US$100 million of earnings from non-quota products, according to the Ministry of Trade’s statistics.
Vietnam hopes to earn around US$2.75 billion from exporting garments and textiles to the US market this year.
