ConocoPhillips Eyeing to Expand Business in Vietnam

The US oil and gas giant ConocoPhillips has expressed its interests in being granted a license to fully exploit gas in the Su Tu Trang (White Lion) field off southern Vietnam, according to Mr. William B. Berry, a senior official of ConocoPhillips.

The exploitation in the Su Tu Trang field needs installation of an offshore floating gas processing system. The operator of the field can then liquefy gas by building other facilities onshore, according to oil and gas experts.

"With experience in tapping gas in large projects in Australia and Indonesia, ConocoPhillips can easily operate the Su Tu Trang field," a corporate official said.

ConocoPhillips, the largest US energy investor in Vietnam, has so far invested nearly US$800 million here. It is now involved in operating the Nam Con Son gas project, Rang Dong, Su Tu Trang, Su Tu Den fields and others throughout Vietnam.
