Exports to S. Korea May Reach US$750Mln this Year

Vietnam is likely to rake in US$750 million from exports to South Korea this year, up 24 per cent against last year, said a Vietnamese trade official at a meeting between the Korean Importers Association (KOIMA) and Vietnamese enterprises yesterday.

"Vietnam's key exports to South Korea include seafood, garments, footwear products and farm produce," said Ha Ke Tuan, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Department under the Trade Ministry.

KOIMA chairman Soon Han Kwon said Vietnamese exporters should approach distribution systems of KOIMA to boost their exports to South Korea. KOIMA now has 10,000 member enterprises.

Trade between the two countries reached US$3.8 billion in 2004, with South Korean exports to Vietnam accounting for US$3.33 billion or 87.6 per cent. In the first two months of this year, Vietnam spent US$458.4 million on imports from South Korea.
