The newly found well is able to provide 1,500 barrels of oil and 38.8 million cubic feet (1.1 million cubic meters) of gas per day, according to the Vietsovpetro’s initial estimates.
The initial analysis of an oil sample from the 04-3 Thien Ung 1X field showed that the crude is good with an American Petroleum Institute (API) gravity degree of 41.
This is the first time good crude oil has been found in the Bloc 04-3 since 1974, a Vietsovpetro official said.
Tran Le Dong, general director of Vietsovpetro, said his company also discovered another gas well with estimated daily output of 3 million cubic feet (228,000 cubic meters) in late March and early April.
Dong said the third drill in the area discovered oil and gas discovery with an anticipated daily output of 346 barrels of oil and 1.1 million cubic feet of gas.
“Vietsovpetro will carry out two other drills in the Thien Ung 1X field,” said the official, adding that his company plans to have the full estimation of reserves in the Thien Ung 1X field this year.
