Vietnamese, Canadian Businesses Sign US$70Mln Deals

Vietnamese and Canadian businesses on Thursday signed contracts worth nearly USUS$70 million during a business forum in Toronto, Canada.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, who is on his first official visit to Canada, witnessed the signing of trade deals that include contracts to export garments, cashew nuts, aquatic products and pepper and catfish to Canada.

At the forum, Director of the Government Office Doan Manh Giao also granted an investment license to Canada’s Tiberon Minerals to invest US$12 million in a project on exploiting tungsten in Vietnam’s northern province of Thai Nguyen.

“The Vietnamese government will facilitate investment and trade by Canadian businesses in Vietnam,” said PM Khai at the forum.

Vietnam attracted two Canadian investment projects with combined registered investment of US$6.1 million in the first five months this year, raising the total number of Canadian investment projects in the country to 47, capitalized at US$232 million.
